Reno, Nevada. It was 1947, the heyday of the Nevada six
week divorce. Reno was the place to go and “I’m going to
Reno!” became synonymous with divorce. Thousands,
including socialites, movie stars and housewives, came
seeking what they called the "Reno Cure." Former dude
ranch wrangler Bill McGee saw this epic era from the
close-up perspective of the cowboy working on Nevada's
most exclusive dude ranch, the Flying M E, 20 miles
south of Reno. McGee's personal stories are laced with
names like Clark Gable, Ava Gardner, and a Roosevelt, du
Pont and Astor. Sidebars and appendices provide brief
histories of Nevada’s unique divorce business --
including interviews with lawyers, the role the media
played, what it was like to go to court for a “six
minute” divorce – and profiles of the other leading
Nevada dude-divorce ranches of the era.
