Reno, Nevada - It
was 1947, the heyday of the Nevada six week divorce
and Reno was the place to go. Thousands, including
socialites, movie stars and housewives, came seeking what they
called the "Reno Cure." Former dude ranch wrangler Bill McGee
saw this world from the close-up perspective of the cowboy working
on Nevada's most exclusive dude ranch, the Flying M E, south of
Reno. McGee's stories are laced with names like Clark Gable,
Ava Gardner, and a Roosevelt, du Pont and Astor. Personal
stories are mixed with historical sidebars and appendices, providing
a valuable history of a unique epoch of the West.
